Board of Directors, Committees, Resource Teams |
The ICC Board of Directors, Standing Committees
and Resource Teams exist to manage and oversee all of the various
aspects of running the ICC. Each group, team or committee
is specialized for a specific area of administration. Some
committees have the power to take action and make policy changes
on their own, while others research and discuss issues and make
recommendations to another decision making body, either the Board
or the membership. ICC groups/teams/committees are made
up mostly of house presidents as it is part of their job duties
as Board of Directors to pick an area they have interest in, however
they can also include all interested members. Sitting on
a committee is a great way to get involved and fulfill your work
requirement to your house (or just cause you love it so!).
For further descriptions, goals, purposes and activities of each
committee, look to the ICC Standing Rules
and policy manuals for the Board, each committee and resource
team.
The ICC Board of Directors (email)
The Board of Directors (BoD) is the supreme decision center
(aside from the membership as a whole) and is legally responsible
for managing the ICC. This is a group made up of elected
officers from each ICC house. They are the only voting
members of this Board. The ICC President, the General
Manager, and the Vice Presidents are also members of the Board
though they are not voting. The BoD is a great resource
for members. Meetings are held at the EdCenter every two
weeks (when un-inhibited by holidays) on Sunday nights.
They begin at 6pm with an agenda item called “Member Time”.
All BoD meetings are open and any ICC members are always welcome
to come attend and speak at Member Time or on a separate agenda
item. Board agendas are known as Board packets and are
posted at each house’s mandatory reading board prior to
the meeting.

Coordinating Committee (CoCo) (email)
Visit the CoCo blog at mblog.lib.umich.edu/coco
Also known as CoCo, this committee acts as an executive body for the Board. It consists of all the chairpersons or vice-presidents of all the standing committees as well as the ICC President and the General Manager (GM). CoCo acts in an advisory capacity that guides and informs the Board, reviews and prepares Board proposals and sets the Board agenda. Coco’s goal is to make sure that ultimate control over actions of the co-op rests with its members – YOU through their representation on the Board. Vice Presidents are appointed by the ICC President and approved by the Board. The ICC President is elected by the entire membership.
Membership
Committee (email)
The Membership Committee (MEMCOM) designs and implements
policies and procedures for membership issues, such as contracts,
contract dates, deadlines, gender ratios, etc., and also handles
some membership-related problems within houses, such as high vacancy
rates and expulsion requests. It consists of the Vice President
for Membership, the Director of Member Services (staff member),
some house presidents, and other interested members.

It is made up of the V.P. for Development, the Maintenance Director, some house presidents and any other interested members.
Diversity Awareness Committee (email)
DAC works to promote awareness of cultural diversity and minority issues in the ICC, prevent discrimination and ensure equitable treatment. The committees’ main purpose is to guarantee that all people who will embrace the fundamental values of the ICC shall have equal and equitable access to membership in and, subsequently, the services and government of, the ICC. They fulfill their goals by providing support, information and education to ICC members on diversity issues that include possible discrimination and awareness. DAC consists of the V.P. for Diversity Awareness, the Diversity Awareness
Assistants, some house presidents and any other interested members. New members to the Diversity Awareness Committee are always welcome!
The ICC Standing Rules prohibit prejudicial behavior. DAC creates programs and activities to support this stance. See Standing Rules on prejudicial behavior.
Please see our Resources Page for information on local and national organizations, and articles related to diversity.

Sustainability Resource Team (email)
The Sustainability Team is made up of a Team Chair, any interested members and Board members as appointed by the Coordinating Committee. Their purpose is to educate team members, the Board, the Staff and the ICC membership as a whole on ways of reducing ecological harm and increasing the long-term environmental sustainability of the co-ops by maintaining the community garden, advocating sensible use of ICC resources and encouraging and supporting creative initiatives from within the ICC community to work towards these goals.

Co-op Solidarity Team (email)
The Co-op Solidarity Team aims to provide support to the cooperative and Fair Trade movements both locally and abroad.
The team intends to educate ICC members about these movements, as well as promote the principle of "cooperation amongst
cooperatives" by encouraging mutually beneficial relationships between the ICC and other cooperative ventures. The team
also provides an opportunity for members to deepen their commitment to cooperative causes beyond the ICC, supporting the
missions of local organizations such as Food Not Bombs, the United States Social Forum and the UM student organization,
Students Organizing for Labor Equality (SOLE). Current projects include the creation of a calender of Cooperative and
Solidarity-related events to be added to the ICC website, facilitating skill-shares led by area co-op businesses, and
promoting the inclusion of more cooperative and Fair Trade products within house and ICC budgets.
The Co-op Solidarity Team also maintains the low-volume Co-op Solidarity Announcement List for interested ICC members and co-op friends to learn about co-op-related events, news, and discussions. To join the list, enter your email address in the box below!
