What Does It Cost?
The benefits keep coming when it comes to saving on expensive Ann Arbor living
Monthly Charges
ICC members pay charges each month that cover room and board; everything is included: furnished room, internet, utilities, groceries, cleaning supplies, and more. The monthly charges are broken down into two primary categories, ICC Charges and House Charges, with an additional default $5 scholarship contribution (Solidarity Fund Contribution) that members can opt out of. The sections below detail what exactly is covered by the different charge types.
-
Cover centralized costs, such as internet and utilities, most maintenance, property insurance, central staffing, office supplies and software, scholarships, loan payments, etc.
-
ICC Charges are set by the Board of Directors in February for the following May through April.
-
The Board is made up of current ICC members, with at least one elected from each house – this could be you!
-
-
ICC Charges vary between houses based on unit types – use the calculator below to find the specific charges for the house/unit you’re interested in.
-
Cover food and supplies at the house level.
-
Each house will vote at a house meeting to determine what their house charges should be for the summer or for the fall/winter term, and elect a house treasurer to manage the house budget and food steward(s) to buy house groceries.
-
House charges vary between houses, with most falling in the $120 – $150 per month range.
Notable exceptions are King House (who only buy communal cleaning supplies and toilet paper) at around $10 per month, and Escher House (who employ a house chef) at around $350 per month.
-
The calculator uses the average for all other houses, which in April 2026 was $138 per month. This is what members will be charged in September before the house budget is approved.
-
-
The Solidarity Fund contributions fund the Solidarity Scholarship, as well as supplementing our other scholarship programs (Bridge and MLK) when there are funds available.
-
Members are opted-in by default to contribute $5 per month, but can opt out or increase their contribution at any time using this form.
-
Semesterly Charge discount: Members can fill out this form to have their full charges for the semester posted to their member portal. Members who pay the semester’s charges up-front receive a discount on their ICC Charges (standard discount of 1%, members receive a 2% discount if their SAI is under 14790, or for non-students, if their income is below 60% of the Washtenaw County area median income).
-
The ICC offers need-based scholarships, which you can read about on this page. We also have scholarships for some leadership positions, such as the ICC President and Vice Presidents.
-
Payment Plans are also available to help members avoid late fees if they are unable to make their payments as they are due. The payment plan guidelines and application can be found on this page.
Estimate My Charges
This calculator will provide an estimate of your total monthly charges based on house, room type, and contract term. For summer, the calculated amount will reflect monthly charges for May – July, with the August charge being about half of the calculated amount. For fall/winter, the calculated amount shows your monthly charges for September – April and there will be an additional August charge due upon move-in of about 1/4 of the calculated ICC Charges. For 12 month contracts (available at King and Truth), monthly charges are the same amount year-round with no adjustments, other than if house charges are modified by a house vote. You can view a full breakdown of the charges by house and due dates at this page.
